Agent Penny and her sidekick Will Power teach those from 10 to 12 years old how to spend money wisely and take responsibility for their future.
The Adventures of Agent Penny, the first of three comic books on the subject, was launched by Education Ministry deputy director-general Datuk Kusaini Hasbullah at Sekolah Kebangsaan Taman Megah here today.
The project is a joint effort between Citibank and the Malaysian Invention and Design Society, aimed at educating youngsters on finance and money.
"By understanding how to deal with money wisely at a young age, the next generation of Malaysians will get a headstart in learning to take responsibility for their future," said Piyush Gupta, Citigroup country officer and Citibank Bhd chief executive officer.
He said this would be useful when they started working and had to make decisions on lifestyle expenses, loan commitments and personal credit.
Some 10,000 copies of the comic books will be distributed to schools in the Klang Valley, and are available in both English and Bahasa Melayu.
Citibank also plans to expand the reach of the adventures of Agent Penny and Will Power via a website called the "Kids’ Wealth Foundation", where students will find Agent Penny school calendars, wallpapers and interactive learning games.
The project will be launched in June at www.kidswealthfoundation.org. Also present were MINDS president Datuk Augustine On and headmaster Khoo Swee Poh.
