Uitvinders, professoren en gekke geleerden
Het wemelt ervan in de stripgeschiedenis: mensen die denken iets ingewikkelds te moeten toevoegen aan de schepping. Uitvinders, professoren en geniale knutselaars zijn dankbare figuren voor de striptekenaar. Zie de laatste Stripschrift.
Stripschrift nr. 369, het juninummer om precies te zijn, is gewijd aan bedenkers van onnutte zaken. Er is een artikel gewijd aan Guust Flater en zijn uitvindingen (zie het artikel ‘Flater Science’ van 2 december 2004 elders op deze site), want de tentoonstelling over het werk van Franquin in het Cité des Sciences in Parijs is inmiddels door een half miljoen mensen bezocht!
In het artikel ‘Professor Punt – verstrooid maar bij de tijd!’ gaat Annette Wouters diep in op het fenomeen ‘stripprofessor’. Behalve de genoemde Professor Punt uit Paulus de Boskabouter noemt zij:

Dit specimen uit de onderwijshiërarchie is daarmee uitputtend beschreven, al zou het nog leuker zijn als iemand de moeite zou nemen om ook de internationale stripprofessoren te inventariseren.
Overigens doen de ingewikkelde apparaten die Professor Punt (van Jean Dulieu) ontwierp sterk denken aan de omslachtige bouwsels van de Britse tekenaar William Heath Robinson (1872-1944). Punt bedenkt een puntprikker om een gaatje in een worst te maken voordat deze de pan in gaat, Heath Robinson bedacht een machine om een touwtje door te knippen. Die machine is dan wel metershoog en vergt diverse arbeidskrachten.
