Stripdagen Haarlem is the largest comics-festival of the northern countries, with a total of fifty exhibitions, book fairs, concerts, lectures, workshops and experiments with comics & new media. Main focus of the 10th edition on 5 and 6 june is: comics from Eastern-Europe!
The exhibition ‘More weird, more good: Komiks from the other half’ shows work by Dace Sietina (Latvia), Edik Katychin (Russia), Roland Pilcz (Hungary), Marzena Sowa & Sylvain Savoia (Poland), Tomas Kucerovsky (Czech Republic) en Igor Hofbauer (Croatia). In this exhibition we will also show a collection of comics magazines in Eastern-European countries. The Last Match, an exhibition from Riga (Latvia), can also be seen in this venue. We offer the possibility via Skype to see the other hallf of The Last Match in Erlangen.
Jakup Ferri from Kosovo, Cyprian Koscielniak from Poland and Levan Busurashvili from Georgia each have their own exhibitions, we will show films by Ivan Maximow from Russia. The band La Minor, also from Russia, will give a concert. Petrol from Servia will play. Igor Hogfbauer from Zagreb will give a lecture about Croatian comics. Spartak - Interdisciplinary Platform for Eastern Europe, will give a lecture about Asta Sme: documentary comics about the Roma in the Czech Republic. Spartak will also show animationfilms from different Eastern-European countries. End of april the Dutch Comics Foundation (SBN) will launch a database in English with information about artists, festivals, and magazines in he Eastern-European countries.

Op het bovenstaande google docs-adres zijn de vorderingen van de database-in-wording te volgen. De tentoonstelling 'KOMIKS FROM THE OTHER HALF' is gepland in Gallery 37, Groot Heiligland te Haarlem. In de Vleeshal zal werk te zien zijn van Jakup Ferri uit Kosovo. Het Patronaat gaat Oosteuropese bands programmeren, de Filmschuur tekenfilms van Ivan Maximov uit Rusland, de Poolse tekenaar Cyprian Koscielniak zal exposeren en Joost Veerkamp heeft gezorgd voor een festival-vormgeving in retro-stalinistische stijl met een Haarlems tintje. Stichting Beeldverhaal Nederland werkt hierbij samen met o.a. Spartak - Interdisciplinary Platform for Eastern Europe.
